Call for Papers

The Art and Design Research Meeting - EnIAD invites students and researchers from Art and Design fields to present their research projects, either completed or ongoing, in the scope of the attendance of master's or doctoral courses.

Theme

Research in Art and Design; research methods, processes and results; interdisciplinary dialogues.

Objectives

EnIAD focuses on presenting processes that lead research in Art and Design, and its results. The meeting aims to become a platform for promoting original postgraduate research and provide further sharing of knowledge and experiences regarding the elaboration of a Research Project, a Dissertation or a Thesis. EnIAD also intends to encourage interdisciplinary discussion and reflection on the specificities and trends of academic research in Art and Design fields.

Languages

The languages of EnIAD are Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Assessment

The assessment of submissions is carried in "double blind peer review". Each paper (synopsis / article) received by EnIAD is forwarded, without reference to the author, to two or more members of the Scientific Committee, keeping double-blind anonymity.

Important dates

EnIAD will take place on 2nd and 3rd October 2019 at the Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Belas-Artes.

  • – Deadline for submission of abstracts: May 31st
  • – Notification of acceptance of the abstracts: June 15th
  • – Submission of full papers or posters: August 31st
  • – Communication of acceptance of full papers or posters with or without recommendations for improvement: September 23rd
  • – Detailed program of the meeting: September 23rd
  • Costs

    Authors with approved communications or posters: EUR 20 (registration before September 5th); EUR 40 (after September 6th).

    FBAUL students and CIEBA researchers are free from registration fees.

    Public attendance: free and open to all FBAUL students.

    Submissions

    The submission process takes place in two stages:

  • – First stage: submission of abstracts until May 31st.
  • – Second stage: submission of full papers or posters by August 31st.
  • First stage

    Submission of abstracts for communications or posters

    The participant can send to eniad@belasartes.ulisboa.pt two doc files, one with an anonymous abstract and another with his identification data:

  • – File template docx or odt, with an anonymous abstract. Example available here.
  • – File template docx or odt, with personal data organized according to the model here.


  • The abstract includes:

  • – Submission title (descriptive title with a maximum of 170 characters with spaces);
  • – Abstract text with a maximum of 2500 characters with spaces;
  • – Insertion of the main bibliographical references (up to a maximum of 5);
  • – Can include one or two images inserted in the text and subtitled.


  • Posters on academic research are also accepted (Research Project, Dissertation or Thesis), either completed or in progress. The poster should include the research topic, aims, methodology, literature review, expected or achieved outcomes and main bibliographical references used.

    In the first phase, the participant must submit an abstract with the poster proposal, identifying this option.




    After the abstract approval, settle the registration.

    Standards for communications

    The communications are original and the presentation does not exceed 10 minutes.

    A maximum of four authors is allowed for each communication, only the researcher and the supervisors of the work are eligible (the registration fee for each of the authors is due).

    The communication will always be presented by one of the authors, and their delegation will not be allowed to third parties.

    EnIAD Publications

    All approved papers will be published in PDF book volume with ISBN.

    Some communications may be published in an academic journal with ISSN.

    Second phase

    Submission of full papers

    The full paper should follow the example available here.

    The paper includes:

  • - Title (descriptive title with a maximum of 170 characters with spaces);
  • - Summary (up to 500 characters with spaces);
  • - Up to 5 keywords;
  • - Body (with introduction, development and discussion) of about 12.000 to 18.000 characters with spaces;
  • - Up to 10 images inserted along the text, subtitled and referenced;
  • - Bibliographical references following APA system (only those cited in the text).
  • Papers composition

    Without footnotes, according to the ISO 690 in the "(author, date)" modality equivalent to the "APA 6th ed" system.

    Features: Times New Roman, size 12 pt., 1.5 line spacing, 2.5 cm of margins.

    Registration

    The enrollment and registration process is to be made in person and its free for all participants. It takes place in the lobby of the Main Auditorium, during the three days of the event, prior the presentation of works, at 9am.
